Cables, Frontiers, Bunkers, and Ruins

This Master’s Thesis develops an interdisciplinary research into the internet’s material infrastructure along the Atlantic coast of southern Spain, centered on the Atlantis-2 submarine fibre optic cable and its Cold War-era bunker landing site near Conil de la Frontera. Combining archival research, creative ethnographic mediation, and speculative non-linear assemblies, the thesis traces the deep historical, colonial, and mythological genealogies embedded in undersea telecommunications infrastructure — proposing new ways of relating to the internet as a fragile material ecosystem rather than an invisible and immaterial cloud. MA Thesis, Aalborg University, 2021.
